a dermatologist’s take on lactic acid and retinol

my favorite kind of doctor appointments are visits with my dermatologist. I always come prepped with a list of questions about ingredients I’ve read about or a new kind of facial. I love learning something new about skincare! here is what I’ve gathered from my most recent visit:

on integrating lactic acid: not many studies on it — start with using it once a week at night when not using retinoid. try for 2-3 weeks to see if there’s a difference.

on retinol vs. retinoid: a retinoid is a softer version of a retinol, and can be purchased over the counter. retinol cleans pores. if you find a retinol to be too drying, try using a retinoid (like herbivore’s bakuchiol).

I hope you just learned something too!

TCFN!
