how to find your “skin type” (aka your skin’s mood)
so the truth is, your skin does not have one set type the way we have our sun signs. there are so many factors that contribute to what I like to call your skin’s “mood” that can be even more instrumental than genetics. it could be anywhere from:
the season + climate
nutrition + water intake
how you stay active
overall lifestyle and wellbeing
how organic your products are
the best way to find out what category your skin classifies as is to first cleanse your skin, and then wait about 30 minutes to 1 hour before applying any product. now look in the mirror. if your skin is:
tight, matte (especially around the mouth area), and small pores … dry
shine in the t-zone but dry elsewhere … combination
shine on the whole face … oily
and if your skin feels supple but not overly shiny … normal
there are extreme misconceptions about skincare for certain types. when someone continues to use drying products on “oily” skin, it will continue over-producing oil as the moisture barrier has been stripped. this leads to dehydration! if you lightly pinch your cheek and it wrinkles, this is a sign of dehydration. and those with “sensitive” skin shouldn’t be using toxin-infused white creams where there are plenty of organic products free from fragrances available.
patience is a virtue, and getting to know your skin is well worth the wait.
