my playlist-making process
Who doesn’t love making the perfect playlist? You can curate a list of your favorite tracks that perfectly match a mood, memory or moment. As we get to know ourselves more, we learn what kinds of music we want to listen to, but more importantly, when we want to listen to that music.
I want to take you through my process of making playlists, let’s go!
I have four types of playlists — sound, stamp, seasonal and space.
Sound includes my genre playlists, like
Stamp is sort of like a time-stamp, so that includes my
Seasonal includes my typical Spring, Summer and Fall playlists, so that I can go back and re-experience what I listened to at a certain period in my life
Space is where I associate certain songs with the feelings they evoke, like a niche memory or headspace that I always find my way back to
I’m never shy when it comes to playlist length. Sure, I have some smaller playlists that are 2h long, but my longest playlist is 124h long. That would be my breakfast blend playlist, which is sort of a mix of everything if I’m extra indecisive of what I want to listen to. My reasoning in making such long playlists is that it gives less of a chance of the same songs coming up, and especially one that I know too well. Sometimes when I listen to a playlist, I rediscover a song I had forgotten about, and fall in love with it all over again.
Get creative with titles! Make them what you would want them to be called because every playlist is yours to keep. Recently, I started adding artwork to my playlists which has made them feel even more personalized.
Every playlist is made for you by you. So keep making playlists and fine-tuning them so you can accompany those moods, memories and moments you experience.
What’s your favorite playlist and what’s in it? Let me know in the comments!
